Our Church History

Brookport Church of God was organized July 31, 1951 under the leadership of  former Administrative Bishop James L. Slay. The newly organized congregation bought property on 5th street in Brookport and began the process of constructing a church building. In 1965 the congregation with a vision to expand its ministry endeavors bought property on the corners of 4th and George streets in Brookport which was an existing church building. With the guidance and vision of former pastor, Jerry Holt a new sanctuary was built in 1973 on that same property and the existing church building was converted into classrooms and a fellowship area. Charles and Darla Tate became pastors in 1994 and continue to lead the congregation. Pastor Charles Tate and the members of the church again with a vision to increase ministry opportunities purchased just over 30 acres right outside Brookport on US Highway 45 South. Our vision is to share the love, life and liberty of Jesus. Our mission is to seek ways to serve Christ by serving our community and beyond based on- Acts 1:8, “But will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

Everything we do is about bringing us to God and to one another. We strive to make the name of Jesus famous and to tell of His work in us and through us so that others may come to faith in Him.

Grow

We are committed to the discipleship of families & individuals to grow in faith, in biblical knowledge, and in relationship with Christ. We come together not because we are good, but we come together because we want to be better.

Serve

We believe that we were not made to simply be “members” of a church. We are the movement of the body of Christ. With excellence we will work to bring justice to the poor, relief for the weary, healing for the sick, and love to the unloved.
